Import Export Code (also known as IEC) is a 10 digit identification number that is issued by the DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade), Department of Commerce, Government of India. It is also known as Importer Exporter Code. It is not possible to deal with export or import business without this code.
IEC (Import Export Code) is required by anyone who is looking to kick-start his/her import/export business in the country. It is issued by the DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade). IEC is a 10-digit code which has a lifetime validity.
You can't import without an IEC code/certificate. IEC, Import Export Code is the most important prerequisite in case of Importation or Exportation of goods. But yes, you can't do it doesn't mean that there is no way out. Consult a good merchant importer/exporter and ask him if he will do it on your behalf.
Get IEC code and proceed to next step. Register with Export Promotional Council (RCMC): RCMC stands for Registration Cum Membership Certificate. Always remember, if you are an exporter of goods, then it is mandatory to register with the export promotional council or with Commodity Board of India.
